Animation: Adding texture

Complete collection of Tail feathers in Photoshop
Modeling in Maya was a great learning experience. However, adding the texture was what i enjoyed the most. The photo above is the Planar Mapping of the entire bird including its legs. As much as i enjoyed this process, it was challenging to predict how much the texture would stretch once it was placed on the model in Maya.

Hybrid Media Final Project Proposal: "AussieInteractive"
From concept to rendition:
The installation will require Open Sound Control (OSC), Processing, blue tape and the Isight built-in cameras. OSC will mainly be responsible for the sound aspect of this installation as well as the configuration between the computers to project a 180 degree view of Western Australia, Darwin, Uluru, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. In addition, Processing will be integrated in this project to successfully project the images across the “windows” (monitors) as well as implement the fading in and out effect that the images will process.

The blue tape will be placed on the floor of the room to form an outlined-shape of the country of Australia without any labels or indication of cities and states. As bizarre as this sounds, this will encourage the spectator to stand on a different part of Australia, thus triggering that particular area of the country and seeing the results in the “window” (see Figure 2). Finally, the built-in Isight cameras in addition to the integration of Processing, will function as the motion sensors which will detect the proximity of the participant to the computer. The sudden appearance of images within the windows caused by the movement of the participant, will encourage the viewer to explore different areas of the floor map.
The participant is meant to walk into the space without having any expectations. As the individual walks onto the floor map and gradually becomes close to the teal colored screens displayed, the screens will gently fade into imagery of the appropriate location in Australia according to the position of the individual on the floor map. The windows will display series of images from that particular location, maps, and other visual data. If the individual moves to another part of the floor map, the current imagery on the window that the individual was looking at will fadeout into teal.
Animation: Final Modeling
I think i'm satisfied with the frontal part of the bird. I still have to finish the back tail, but so far its looking great! Texturing is not an easy process. Everything stretches a bit but i've managed to understand how i need paint the texture on Photoshop to make it work. During this process, i was introduced to Bumpmaps in Maya. This technique makes the "feathers" on the bird, seem more 3D.
I'm also quite excited that i've learned about Planar Mapping! what an accomplishment. This allows me to properly layout the textures and paint them correctly in Photoshop.

Digital Compositing
It looks like Ultimatte in Nuke didn't work as i had planned. Primate did the trick.
i was able to add in a Blur Node to give the effect that the camera is in-focus with the figure. As the figures walks away the camera focuses on both the figure and the background.
Digital Storyboarding: Final lighting
This is the final rigging for our snail animation in Nuke.
It's all been a real challenge. I feel like everyone else so ahead in terms of familiarity with both Maya and Nuke. Thank God for Kit and Lucieon and their true dedication and admiration for these programs.Sunday, May 6, 2012

Hybrid Media: Project 2
The intentions behind this Processing project is to present data visualization of the images based on the Google Image search result for the keyword “Andy Warhol.” My interest lies in observing the popularity within the content of the images associated with the keyword Any Warhol within the first page of the Google Image results.
The program is designed in a rectangular window to compliment the timeline aesthetic that best presents the popularity of the images starting from the least popular (displayed on the left side of the screen) to the most popular (displayed on the right side of the screen).
The banana images are not placed in the program for mere decoration, but rather to conceptually represent the colors that are most dominant in the image results within the first page. Moreover, the size of the banana represents how much of that particular color is displayed in the images.
The interactivity of this program is introduced to the user when the cursor is at close proximity to the small lime-green ellipse shape. Once the ellipse shape is “activated” by the cursor, a series of images appear as the cursor moves along the thick red line along the middle of the program. However, not all images are the same size. The smaller images that sporadically appear are activated by sound. For example, the louder the sound, the bigger the image becomes. The conceptual idea behind this is that the images that are most popular within the Google Image search, expand to be viewed more clearly because the user is bringing more attention to the image by speaking loudly or making a loud noise.

Hybrid Media: Google image data visualization
Animation: Texture Design
I'm thinking about texturizing the bird with some blue, yellow, black and white. His eyes will be green and beak will an organge-red.

The, “Andy Warhol Timeline” webpage is a result of the admiration I have for Pop Artist Andy Warhol and his artwork throughout his lifetime. The concept behind the timeline aesthetic came from analyzing Warhol’s major milestones in his career as a revolutionary artist. This webpage attempts to capture a small snippet of Warhol’s signature style and presents his major artistic milestones by presenting an iconic image with the year in which it was created from 1949 to 1973. In addition, a brief description is presented by each image to inform the view of the content.
The layering effect that the webpage incorporates is a visual representation of the progression of Warhol’s artwork. Moreover, in the upper part of the page, an image of warhol in his earlier years is presented. The position and the image itself correlate with the visual representation of Warhol’s beginning. As the user scrolls down his young face disappears and the image of Warhol in the later stages of his life appear once the bottom of the page is reached.

Digital Storyboarding: Paranorman an inspiration
I really can't wait to see this. The character design and story seem great!
